My Freshman Year: I can relate a lot to this section of the reading, when the laid back teachers where brought up. I think first coming to college I did expect so much more freedom than my life back at how with my mother and high school but I think schooling here is more lenient opposed to other countries. I think students respect syllabuses that are given out to students at the begining of each semester that explain whats expect out of you and when certain things are also do. Some teacher might say it's ok to have your phone out an some may not think that's okay. But it's all about the respect you're suppose to have with teachers and their authority. Sometimes it's hard for students to show "respect" because of the amount of freedom they already have but with freedom comes with a price for example. You're able to skip class but if you skip it a certain amount of times your grade starts going down and you don't want that. So I think with freedom comes responsibility.
The Mind at Work: I really liked the idea of this chapter when students were given opportunities to find work to pass time so they don't get in trouble. There was an arrangement made with the city to help out these students because they're not all bad kids but may have just came from a back place.
